Weekend-o-Derby

There is much derby action to be had in Kansas City this weekend, fans!

Tomorrow night, the Kansas City Roller Warriors All Stars, ranked second on the South Central division as of press time, take the track against the Naptown Rollergirls of Indianapolis, ranked third in the North Central division.

I think the first half of the game will be a shootout, but the second half will see the Wolfpack pull away relatively early before running off with it altogether. It’s not going to be a good weekend for Indy, I’m afraid.

On Sunday, the Kansas City Banked Beauties are back on the banked track to take on… the Naptown Rollergirls?!

Mutiny Match-Up: The Battle for Booty

Can you believe the 2012 Dead Girl Derby season is drawing to a close? It seems like it just got started. In any case, this Sunday night, the Dead Girls will be taking the track once again in the final game before next month’s championship, and they’re calling this one Mutiny Match-Up: The Battle for Booty.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but any event that promises derby girls battling for booty is an event I’m not likely to miss. Doors open at 5:30 and the games begin promptly at 6:00. Join the Dead Girls at River Roll this Sunday night!

KCRW Boot Camp: A Sneak Peek

As you may have seen from the endless tweets and Facebook posts over the last three days, the Kansas City Roller Warriors All-Stars hosted a phenomenal two-day boot camp at Winnwood Skate Center in Kansas City this weekend, and KC Derby Digest was on hand to document the insanity.

We will, of course, have the full photo album and play-by-play posted this week sometime, but until that happens, we wanted to give you a sneak peek at some of the amazing ladies who participated in this weekend’s workshops and scrimmages. Big, big thanks again to the KCRW All-Stars for hosting such an outstanding event and for giving KC Derby Digest the opportunity to experience it with them.

You can click on the images for the full-size versions; feel free to save them and use them as you like. If you would, please credit KC Derby Digest for the photos if you share them online.

Get a load of Temptress Storm.

Had to sacrifice Bruz for the greater good.

Is it me, or is this just a smaller group?

Now that is a good-lookin’ bunch.

YEAH!

Kay C. Shuffle

It was announced Saturday night, to the chagrin of all of us here at KC Derby Digest, that one of our all-time favorite Susans, Kay C. Shuffle, is hanging up her skates and calling it a career.

The inimitable Ms. Shuffle provided scant detail as to what led to the mid-season decision, but indicated that a handful of personal responsibilities played a significant role. As fans and friends-in-derby, we of course respect her decision and look forward to seeing her at KCRW bouts and events this season and beyond. As an added tease bonus, she did briefly allude to the possibility of some future derby endeavors, but since we were not explicitly on the record, we’re not at liberty to discuss or speculate.

You’re killin’ us, Shuffle. But we sure do love you.

KILLIN’ US.
