After the dissolution last season of St. Joseph’s Blacksnake Rollergirls, we feared there would be a noticeable void left unfilled in the local roller derby scene. While we were (and remain) saddened that such a phenomenal chapter in Kansas City roller derby history has ended, the Missouri River Rollers have risen from the ashes, and this Saturday night, they hold their inaugural bout at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall in Atchison, Kansas.

It is our hope here at KC Derby Digest that members of the Kansas City roller derby community, fans and players alike, will embrace the new league and offer a strong show of support as they dig in and take their place in the community. Anyone who’s ever participated in this incredible sport knows what a daunting endeavor it can be getting a new league off the ground, and like you, we wish them all the success in the world as they take the track against Benton County this Saturday night.
Doors open at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall at 6:00 Saturday night, and the game begins at 7:00. Adult tickets at the door are only $7. Students ages 13-17 pay only $5 at the door, and college students with a valid college ID can get buy one/get one adult tickets as well. Further details are on the Facebook event page via the link above.
KC Derby Digest will, of course, be on hand for this rather historic kick-off, and we hope to see everyone trackside to support the Missouri River Rollers. Roll on, Kansas City!
