KCRW Bout 3 Round-Up and Photos

This past Saturday night, the Kansas City Roller Warriors lit up Memorial Hall with another round of derby goodness as their phenomenally unpredictable 2017 season takes shape and we careen toward a Rink of Fire championship that will undoubtedly be the most exciting we’ve seen in quite some time.

The big story at this point in the season is, of course, the Dreadnought Dorothys, who currently stand at 3-0 and haven’t enjoyed an undefeated streak like this since the days of the iron-clad Dorothys that won six straight Rink of Fire championships ending in 2011. Saturday night, they took on the formidable Victory Vixens, who fought like champs, but had some trouble keeping up with the Ruby Reds, whose lead gradually widened as the bout progressed. They enjoyed a 115-62 lead at halftime over the Vixens, but ended the game with 242-153 victory and skated off with their third win of the season with nary a defeat in sight.

The second bout of the night was also a classic KCRW match-up, this one featuring perennial rivals that always bring the heat to the track, the Black Eye Susans and the Knockouts.

Now, the Ladies in Teal came into Game 3 looking for their first win of the season, and although things looked promising early in the bout — they held the lead throughout the first half, if memory serves, and enjoyed a 75-53 lead at halftime — it was not, as they say, to be. The Susans roared back in the second half, taking the lead 135-88 with about 15 minutes left in the bout. The KOs would not be deterred, whittling the Susans’ lead down to 21 with only seconds left in the bout, but the Black & Yellow would hang on to take the win by a score of 174-159, a margin of only 15 points that demonstrates just how close this contest really was.

Current Standings:

Dreadnought Dorothys: 3-0
Black Eye Susans: 2-1
Victory Vixens: 1-2
Knockouts: 0-3
