If there was any doubt that the Blacksnake Rollergirls would finish out their fifth and final season in grand fashion this weekend, well… it was put to rest Saturday night at the St. Joseph Civic Arena.
In the first game of the night, the Venomous Vixens scored an impressive 110-65 win over the Danger Dolls to bring home their second Blacksnake Rollergirls championship in as many years.
Both Lucy Brawler of the Vixens and Hott-Ness Monster of the Dolls would leave the bout with injuries before it was all over, but we’re told both are doing well and will make full recoveries.
The second bout of the night, a grudge match between the Jesse Janes and the Rushin’ Rollettes, was quite a slugfest that saw the Janes bring home a 72-46 win that was actually quite a bit closer than the final score shows. The Janes only had a 10-point lead at halftime, but managed to widen it more and more as the game progressed and ended their five-year run with a well-earned victory.
Once more, we’d like to thank every member of the BRG organization, past and present, for everything they’ve done to make flat track roller derby a reality in St. Joseph. 2017 will certainly be a year of change, and we look forward to new beginnings with the new league.
