Featured Skater – March 2015

Our Featured Skater for March is Sinister Ann
of the Blacksnake Rollergirls!

Name: Sinister Ann
Teams: The Jesse Janes (co-captain)
Number: 383
Position(s): Jammer, Pivot
Seasons with BRG: 4

How did you first discover BRG, and what has kept you going for so long?
“I went to watch BRG play Dead Girl Derby in 2012 at the Civic [Arena]. It looked like so much fun and a great way to exercise. Since I already knew how to skate, I assumed it would be easy. I was able to start practicing a few weeks later with them. I had a blast, but was wrong about the easy part the first time Hott-Ness Monster knocked me on my butt! BRG has become one huge second family for me. Everyone pushes each other to be a better person on and off the track — one big dysfunctional happy family that will do almost anything for each other.”

Describe the origin of your derby name.
“Well, Ann is my middle name, and my boyfriend came up with Sinister. He still won’t tell me why and only smiles when I ask him.”

Who inspires you on the track?
Little Miss Rampage is one of my favorites to watch and play against. I love her drive and the show she puts on for the crowd. I love that lady!! I want to be like her when I grow up!”

How has roller derby changed your life?
“Derby has given me so much confidence in everything I do now. Derby comes into play with a lot of decisions I make. It’s also brought a ton of amazing people into my life.”
