Derby Weekend

Wherever you are in or near Kansas City this weekend, chances are you’ll be able to find some flat track action nearby. There’s certainly no shortage of amazing derby goodness going on, and as always, it’s our job to tell you all about it.

First up, the Cowtown Butchers take the track Saturday night and face off against their MRDA rivals, the Sioux City Kornstalkers. These two ferocious teams are always chomping at the bit to get a piece of each other, and this is your chance to see the latest showdown, as well as your last opportunity to see the Butchers in action in 2013, as Saturday night marks the end of their home season. Join Crimson Cobra and company as they throw down against one of the toughest, most resilient teams in the league and end their successful 2013 season on a high note.

Doors open at 6 p.m., first whistle at 7:00. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.

Also Saturday night, the Blacksnake Rollergirls host their Taking a Beating for Breast Cancer fundraiser! Two Blacksnake mash-up teams will face off in the first contest of the evening, and Game 2 features the Blacksnake Rollergirls All Stars taking on Dead Girl Derby‘s Black Plague!

Doors open at the St. Joseph Civic Arena at 5 p.m. Saturday evening. Adults are $12 and kids are just $5. Exactly 100% of the ticket proceeds from this event will benefit Heartland Health for advanced technology in the early detection of breast cancer. Bring some extra cash-ola and participate in their 50/50 drawing, Chuck-a-Duck, and the silent auction. If you haven’t seen the Blacksnake Rollergirls in action this season, this is absolutely your last chance until 2014! Don’t miss it!

Finally, the Kansas City Roller Warriors Junior Derby league returns to Winnwood Skate Center this Sunday for their September bout. Tickets are $10 at the door and the fun begins at 10:30 a.m. Don’t miss your last chance this season to see these amazing little ladies tear up the flat track!
